It says that if you worship Jesus and follow biblical principles, then God will give you what you really want (success, money, health, and fame). This message is a very popular message in our very religious and consumeristic culture. However, neither of these messages is the message that Jesus preached. And any message where Jesus is the means but not the goal is idolatry. When the identity of a Christian is rooted in a nation... When a person mixes nationalism, patriotism, and politics with their faith and see that country in a covenant relationship with God - it leads to a counterfeit Christianity that is far different from Biblical Christianity. This mixing of faith and the things of this world leads to a “patriotic Christianity” where you subconsciously live for your country as though it’s the Kingdom of God. Sadly, I think many Christians in America envision God as sitting on His throne in heaven, draped in the American flag, with an AR-15 by his side and wearing a MAGA hat. Once the church's identity is rooted in the things of this world (culture, political, tribal identity), and once the church becomes polluted with political and nationalistic aspirations, it loses its vision and becomes a victim of heresy. We forget our true identity in Christ and neglect our purpose. We look for a false savior to replace Christ as the head. And this is exactly what we're seeing today. So many professing Christians have mixed all of these worldly things with their faith and are going along with "patriotic Christianity," Christian Nationalism.

I truly appreciate this interview. He is sensible in his views on policy. I wish that every member of the House and Senate were there to advance policies to help ALL Americans. There has to be a give and take on both sides of the aisle. I believe that those that fall into the category, poor just want dignity. We don't want handouts, but a helping hand to improve our lives so that we, hopefully, will pay it forward.

Yes Ritchie, you get it with the rhetoric of the White House and the war of (Mis)information on Israel. Forget the congress progressives that want to dismantle Israel, how has the White House not recognized what it is doing to Israel? The least they could do is not suggest Israel is intentionally starving people when they know it’s not true and way more nuanced, nor is it Israel’s responsibility to help their enemy survive to fight. But they implied it and lied to please their Islamist party. It would’ve been great for them to take a stand and inform the public of what’s normal and not during war, and to clarify Israel is not to blame for what’s going on, and perhaps clarify that Gaza is not just an enemy of Israel but of the US also. Just like Jews aren’t allowed in Gaza, Americans wouldn’t fare well either. They could’ve clarified some of the Islamist/leftist propaganda going around and set the record straight. But I guess part of their party are the ones spewing it. They didn’t do the right thing and stand up for what is right. They let Israel take the fall for everything. It’s embarrassing to have leadership with zero moral conviction. They not only have empowered the true villains and weakened Israel’s position, therefore weakening chances of hostage return, but they pretty much perpetuated all the libels going around about Israel. Great interview, Margaret! It was informative learning more about Rep. Torres' political and policy interests. I think more and more moderate Democrats are getting turned off by some of the extremism that exists with progressives who have attempted to exert their influence on a life-long moderate Democrat, President Biden, which at times has been detrimental to his naturally pragmatic policy positions. I wish Rep. Torres' would have clarified his support of Israel. I suspect he supports the Israeli people and their right to exist, but he may hold a harsher opinion of the right-wing extremist Netanyahu administration. I believe President Biden's attempt to delay sending bombs to Israel for their use in the war against Hamas has more to do with curbing PM Netanyahu's indiscriminate bombing of the civilian population (too little, too late, in my opinion when diplomacy and negotiation may have been a more effective plan) than signaling an easing of support for the Israeli people and the hostages still being held in Hamas custody.

Mr. Torres is an example of how healthy we can be in our hearts and minds. He is fighting for the "soul of America" and for the progress of humanity!
